Circus Maximus, the label!

It's been two and a half years since Circus Maximus was born. The whole project came about out of necessity. The artist collective already existed, and the idea was to join forces and spread the word of our work collectively.

Back in 2010, we even did a couple of free netlabel releases, including the infamous "Tigre EP" by Infestus.

However, the project went in a different direction, working mainly as an online platform of promotion for our artist roster: Infestus, Rastronaut, Nave Mãe and Daino. Along the way we joined forces with Tokyo'Clock, that have been taking very good care of our image.

The moment has come to take a new step forward. Circus Maximus is about to launch it's label.

More information soon.

New image

You may have noticed that our website has changed.

For a while now Tokyo'Clock Studios have been in charge of our graphical image. We tought it was time to oficially announce it!

We had WAG working with us on the design during the first year of this project (except the first couple of months of 2010). Without his creative input we would not have reached this stage! We want to oficially thank him for everything he did for us!

Also, don't forget that  WAG is still part of our collective as a DJ! (in fact he was just responsible for the first Circus Snack mix - check some more of his mixes here: http://www.mixcloud.com/wag/)

I should also note that one of the members of Tokyo'Clock is Johnweed. Apart from the graphical work he has also contributed with a mix for our podcast series. Remember this one?

Please welcome our new partners, TOKYO'CLOCK!

Circus Snacks

Circus Snacks it's the name of a new feature of our blog. Each Circus Snack will be a compilation of  exclusive free tunes. For each of these compilations there will be a mixed version (mixed by one of our artists). In the following weeks after the release of each mix, every tune will gradually be made avaiable at our blog.

We will feature tunes by artists such as Octa Push, Mr. Gasparov, Xoices, M-Pex and a lot more...

Tomorrow we'll drop the first Snack compilation. Keep checking our blog in the next few weeks to grab the tunes!

Design by TOKYO'CLOCK STUDIO.

We have been absent

Our blog has been extremly slow of late. It was already slow before, but after the whole Japan thing (and a couple of political events in Portugal aswell) it didn't feel right to post new content. Out of respect for thoses events, we decided it was best to keep quiet for a while (btw, here's a useful link http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html).

Our toughts are with Japan, but we must resume our activity.

One Year of Circus!

This blog started precisely an year ago.

Things have changed a lot during the last year.

It started as a blog and artist collective that would soon evolve into a netlabel. Then we had a period of time when the netlabel was put to rest, and a podcast series appeared. After six months, the artist roster changed: We let go of our rock/blues/gospel side and became 100% focused on our electronic club/bass/beat activity. We've operated as a blog, podcast and artist collective ever since.

I can honestly say that this first year was a sucess.

Our, now extinct, netlabel released two EPs: one by Infestus, another by The Ramblers. Both of them received fm radio airplay all over Europe. We got blog and web magazine coverage aswell.

Because of that EP, The Ramblers rose as a powerful force in the local rock/blues scene, and were invited to open for B.B. King when he played in the north of Portugal last May. The blues king himself congratulated the band! The recording of our concert was later released as a podcast episode.

Infestus was a participant on Red Bull Music Academy 2010, and had the pleasure to warm up the crowd for Hudson Mohawke at The Roundhouse, London (listen here and here). A few months later he debuted his Live-act at Boom Festival. The recording of that was released as a podcast episode aswell.

In February, João Costa and Infestus inaugurated the Podcast series under the Cosmika Laika moniker (listen here).

The bass activists, Rastronaut and Nave Mãe, joined the artist roster in May, and have since been actively spreading the Circus Maximus sound in many events all over Portugal. Rastronaut, Nave Mãe and Infestus shared the bill with Mala, in a event at Club Gare, Oporto, last October (listen here). That was the first time our collective was associated with the production of an event, and it was a success!

It was an entire year of mixes, podcasts, musical productions and parties!

We've constantly delivered diverse, and interesting content to our audience during this first year.

We will continue doing the same during the second year, and beyond! Lets go!

Yet another update!

It seems that here, at the Circus Maximus HQ, we are getting used to not updating the blog regularly. From time to time someone says: "Man, we should, like, put something on the blog" and then we write a post, saying that we are busy working on things, that for some reason are currently secret.

This is one of those posts.

First of all, there is a project, codenamed "MEGA-SECRET PROJECT", that is envolving a lot of people. We invited a lot of talents from outside the nuclear Circus Maximus family and are preparing something huge! Like really huge!

As usual, that is not very revealing, I know. Sorry.

In order to compensate for the lack of content on this post, we are going to reveal something else. As you probably know, we are finishing the editing on the footage we collected at Boom Festival.

Here is the proof we are not bullshiting y'all:

End of Summer

It's raining in Lisbon, and it's dark. Summer is over. Alot of us are still in vacation mode and it hasn't been easy returning to our routines. That's the reason why the monthly podcast is late, but rest assured it will be out by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, we have been working on material we collected on my gig at Boom Festival (which was my live-act debut), including audio and video recordings that need editing. We're hoping to have something to show people very soon.

There's other projects aswell! But we can't reveal anything just yet.

That's it for today.

Here's a picture of Tyrone, the Junkie, and his brother Cera, the Prancer. Fits the mood of this post I think. Have a good day.

Update!

I'm sorry, we've been quiet for a couple of weeks now.

The whole collective has been very busy working on new music and booking new gigs. Check the artists myspace for new show dates!

Me personally, I have been doing quite a lot of travelling in the last few days. I went to Oporto for the Monster Jinx event, and it really inspired me to start working the first Circus Maximus night (which Lou has already been planning mentally for some time). A Circus Maximus event will happen when the time is right!

We've also been contacting new musicians from all the over the country to colaborate with the Circus Maximus crew. As a result, there is going to be new additions to the artist roster very soon. Also, keep an eye on our podcast feed, a lot of new stuff is being prepared!

That's it for today dear followers! Speak soon.

Contact Light!

At last the blog exists!

Circus Maximus is an artist collective from Lisbon. Mostly musicians.

We created this blog with the purpose of promoting our own work. All of us had been working with each other for a couple of years, and most of us live in the same area, so it started to make sense to form a collective and give our group a name. Other than promoting our events and our music, Circus Maximus also has the intent of working as a Netlabel.
